Sienna risked a glance over her computer and stared at his profile. His light brown skin and perfectly angled features were highlighted by the light streaming in through the windows. Heat rose to her cheeks. She felt a stronger attraction to Adrian than she had to anyone in years. Well, with the exception of her last boyfriend, but that had fizzled out long ago. She returned her attention to her screen, where a super wealthy client was messaging her about what to get his daughter for her sixteenth birthday.
Jon 12:38 pm: What about a jaguar? We can present it to her at her party.
Sienna 12:50 pm: That could be cool–I’ll reach out to the dealership for you. Let me know what kind and color and any other specifications!
Jon 12:51 pm: Oh, you’re thinking of the car?
Sienna 12:52 pm: Were you thinking of the actual animal??
Jon 12:53 pm: We have to get her something unique, Sienna!
Sienna sighed. Another day, another client who had so much money that he had lost touch with reality. Jon was incredibly kind, but often went overboard with his requests. She tried to think of how to gingerly let him down without hurting his feelings.
As her mind wandered, her eyes drifted over the computer again. She inhaled sharply–Adrian was staring at her. The corner of his mouth curled up into a smile. She smiled despite herself and dropped her gaze.
Adrian strolled over and leaned against her desk. God, he was sexy. And he knew it, which almost made him hotter, but was also kind of infuriating. “Hey Sienna.”
“Hi.” Her heart pounded in her chest. Ohh I have it bad, she thought.
His eyes burned into hers. “Wanna grab lunch?”
“Um, okay.” Sienna tried to sound nonchalant. “I just have to send a message real quick.”
Sienna 1:02 pm: Unfortunately jaguars are illegal to have as pets in New York. Can we brainstorm on something else? How about a baby pig? Or a horse? I’m running to lunch, but let me know what you think of those and I’ll come back with more ideas.
As she typed she could feel Adrian watching her. Her top was low cut, and she was almost sure he was appreciating the curve of her cleavage.
She snapped her laptop closed. “Ready!”
As they walked toward the elevator, a beautiful account executive strode past them. She wore a tight pencil skirt and blouse with two buttons undone, showcasing her curves. The account exec locked eyes with Adrian and gave him a mischievous smile.
Sienna narrowed her eyes. “What was that?” she asked, laughing. “You’ve totally hooked up with her.”
Adrian laughed. “Maybe.”
“Oh my God Adrian, she has a fiance!”
The elevator doors pinged open. “This was before he was her fiance,” Adrian said as they stepped inside.
“Liar,” Sienna said. They both burst into laughter.
The doors shut and the air between them changed. They were alone. Together. In a private, enclosed space. Their eyes met for a moment before Adrian’s eyes dropped to her body and drank her in. A pleasant heat crept up her thighs. Sienna gulped.
The elevator opened again and they set off in silence. As they ambled down the street, they poked fun at each other and laughed about ridiculous client stories. Sienna’s body buzzed with excitement. Her past relationship had been stale for a while before they broke up–she hadn’t been excited about anyone in months. They found a small Thai restaurant and sat across from each other in a booth, their easy banter echoing off the tile walls.
“Shit,” Adrian said safter glancing at his phone.
“What?”
“We’ve been gone for over an hour. We should go.”
Disappointment filled her chest. She didn’t want this to end.
An overcast sky greeted them as they left the restaurant. They walked up 8th Avenue in a comfortable silence until thunder rumbled nearby.
“Oh no… I can’t get this top wet! It’s white!” Sienna said in a panic. The whole office would see straight through to her mint green lacy bra.
Adrian’s eyebrows lifted as he not so subtly glanced at her chest. “Why would that be a bad thing?”
Sienna laughed and hit him on the arm.
Adrian grinned. “No way it’s gonna rain in the next fifteen minutes. We’ll be back by then.”
“Are you a weatherman or something?”
“No, just trust me. I know these things.”
A few minutes into their walk it started to drizzle. Sienna shot Adrian a look from the corner of her eye.
“That’s not rain!” he protested. “It’s just a light mist. It’s not gonna get worse than this.”
At that moment, the sky opened up on them and Sienna screamed. Adrian grabbed her hand and pulled her so that she had to run after him. They ducked under a small awning and out of the onslaught of water.
They cracked up as they caught their breath under the cover, watching as the city blurred around them.
“Good thing it didn’t rain,” Sienna said, smirking at him.
Adrian laughed again. “I was just trying to calm you down.”
“No, you so thought you were right.”
A group of pedestrians ran under the cover of their awning and Sienna found herself being pushed closer to Adrian. Their chests were nearly touching. She looked up at him while inhaling deeply, taking in his delicious smell. There was something like an electrical current flowing between them.
Please touch me, she thought.
As if he had read her mind, she felt his hands on her waist. She stilled, her heart beating wildly. He pulled her closer so that her groin was against his. Her breathing was becoming ragged now. She wanted this so badly.
She wondered if the others could feel the tension between them. They were so close to everyone else but in their own world. She smiled at him, reveling in this moment of desire.
Adrian looked like he couldn’t take it anymore. Without warning, he leaned down and kissed her. Her breath caught in her throat and she put her hands on his chest, gripping his muscles. One of his hands came off her waist and he hooked his finger in the top of her pants.
“Please,” she whispered into his mouth.
He pulled away and looked into her eyes, his mouth open. He held her with his gaze while he pushed his fingers further down the front of her jeans.
“Oh my god, Meredith!” a girl behind them squealed, breaking the moment. Two girls laughed as they splashed rain on each other.
Sienna and Adrian pulled away from their embrace, breathless and panting.
“Let’s get a cab back,” Adrian said, a wicked smile on his face. “We can’t have you all wet.”
To be continued…
